Good to Go Xpresso Makes Donation to Wabash

The Sharon and Kurt Conklin present Wabash Dean for Advancement a check in December, a donation that will go toward a Wabash scholarship fund. The Conklins are owners of Good to Go Xpresso in Crawfordsville. The features "Wabash Cards" that are punched with every purchase, then the Conklins make donations to Wabash for a scholarship fund. Wabash punch cards for Good to Go Xpresso may be picked up on the first floor of Center Hall, Lilly Library, and Kane House.

Now more than ever, the Wabash Annual Fund needs the support of the College's alumni and friends. Any gift — large or small — will have a direct impact on the liberal arts education Wabash students enjoy. For our alumni and friends who wish to take tax benefits in 2008, gifts must be made online or postmarked by December 31, 2008.

Wabash, Co-Motion Help Family Crisis Shelter
Four members of the Wabash Sphinx Club tried to improve the holidays for the women and children living in the Montgomery County Family Crisis Shelter. As part of its annual Co-Motion fund-raising drive, the Club presented checks totaling nearly $1,200 to the shelter, which houses victims of domestic violence.

Baer, Porter Granted Tenure
Wabash President Patrick White and Dean of the College Gary Phillips have announced that religion professor Jonathan R. Baer and chemistry professor Lon Alan Porter, Jr. have been granted tenure.

Good to Go Xpresso Makes Donation
Sharon and Kurt Conklin opened their Good to Go Xpresso coffee shops Good with an interesting business model. The shops operate as drive-through kiosks, and provide customers everything from rich espresso to frozen fruit smoothies. The Conklins’ business model includes a healthy dose of philanthropy, too.

Stark to Conduct Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra
Eric Stark ’88 makes his debut conducting the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra this Saturday when the ISO and Indianapolis Symphonic Choir present a performance of Handel's "Messiah" at Clowes Hall.

Ashraf Haidari, now the political counselor for the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, D.C., had experienced the horrors of a home country in conflict. He decided not only to survive that devastation, but to rise above it.

Haidari Returns to Wabash, Rebuilds Afghanistan
Ashraf Haidari returned to Crawfordsville Tuesday to visit his host family and to spend time catching up with faculty and staff. He is the Counselor for Political, Security, and Developmental Affairs at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, but spends more time traveling making the case for support of his native country.

Recently retired Baker University Professor Tony Brown ’83 will give the Commencement address for fall graduates of Baker on Sunday, December 14 in Baldwin City, Kansas. Brown is just elected to the Kansas House of Representatives for the 10th District.

United States Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey has announced the appointment of David L. Neal ’81 as Vice Chairman of the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), effective January 5, 2009.
